How do I even begin talking about the month that was January?? I feel like January absolutely flew by, and at the same time felt like maybe 2 or 3 months in length. As you’ll know if you follow us on Facebook or Instagram, we spent the last two weeks of January in Cape Town! We had such an amazing time there, and it was so nice to take a break from the routine and the work of the babies home.
Happy New Year! December was a month of many firsts for us.
We both became Godparents for the first time this month! At Watoto Church they do baby dedications on the second Sunday of every month and as babies arrive at the babies home, they get dedicated by international volunteers. We both took a child who arrived later in life, both around a year and a half to two years old. They arrived within a week of each other and could not have settled differently. If you saw Karl’s post about it on Facebook or Instagram, you would have seen that the little girl he took was very shy and nervous when she got here – and still is, almost two months later. Whereas the boy that I took has been happy as a clam at Watoto since the day he arrived. We had the great pleasure of dedicating them into the family of God and committing to pray for them as they grow into the beautiful people God made them to be. [Read more…]
Two months down and we are over a quarter through our time here! Time certainly has not slowed down. That being said, we are definitely settling in to the routine here and finding our feet. I really love feeling like I know what I’m doing at the babies home and that the work I am doing is valuable. We are back with the big toddlers, which is our first time repeating rooms. Because we’ve now been through every room and know all the babies names, we decided to be really intentional about learning the nannies names and getting to know them. Already, after only a few days, it has been paying off. Not only are we more comfortable with them, but they are also much more comfortable around us, even asking about how we met and to see wedding pictures. [Read more…]
